So let me start by stating I am a star wars fan. Not a dipshit type of fan like some of my friends that dresses up as a storm trooper at every opportunity, or has reoccurring wet dreams about princess Leia in a gold bikini (you know who you are). But I have always preferred star wars over that other space franchise (the one with the priceline guy).
So the LIKE I have for Star Wars, is what enabled me to tolerate this game to level 20. I really wanted to like this game, and have it my “go to game” to escape the everyday bullshit that life throws at you. But what I found is that SWTOR is just more of the same bullshit that I’ve played 100 times. I can already hear the fanboys cry out “but it has voice overs for every interaction, and a talk tree” or some crap like that. My response is “so f@&$!ng what!” that extra bullshit is boring, I don’t want to sit there and listen to a lame ass story about why I need to go and get a power coupler, especially when most of the time it doesn’t even fit into a story arc. So what I continually found my self doing was hitting space bar as fast as I could to get to the mind-less qwest already, all the while making my speakers sound like I was listening to a cell phone with crappy service.
Let’s talk about the gameplay. All I can say is WOW. MMORPG’s are in a funk, and SWTOR is no different. It is the same gameplay we have ben playing for 5plus years now with light sabers thrown in. With that being said, dual wielding light sabers in this game does make you feel bad-ass, but that feeling starts to fade after the thousandth time or so. Stack on the terrible grind SWTOR throws at you to level, you have a recipe for been there done that syndrome, then shortly after buyers remorse sets in.
Now granted my expectations for this game was enormous, and probably impossible to achieve. But I was hoping that Bio-Ware was going to breathe some new life into a genre that is desperate for a make over. Well those of you that want to play WOW with voice overs, or you LOVE all things Star Wars (as mentioned above). Then by all means go pick this up, but if you were like me and have grown tired of WOW and was hoping for new life in your MMO, we’ll have to keep on waiting.
